About me

I specialise in English-Spanish translation and interpreting.
I work as a university teacher and (inclusive) language expert.
I am an LGBTQ+ rights activist and a writer.

Biography and education

  • I was born to Spanish parents in Managua, Nicaragua. We moved to Spain when I was two months old.
  • I have lived for most of my life in Spain, but I have also studied in Germany and the UK and worked in Greece.
  • I got my Translation and Interpreting Degree from the University of Granada, Spain, in 2004.
  • I specialised in Translation for Media (subtitling, dubbing) at the City University, London.
  • I’m self-taught in all things computer-related (HTML, LaTeX, Python, and the rest).
  • In 2018 I started writing my PhD on The ethical implications of inclusive language for translators, interpreters and their teachers.

Professional career

  • My first job was as an intern at the University of Granada. I updated the website of the Translation and Interpreting Department, installed computers and printers, that sort of thing.
  • I lived in Heraklion (Crete, Greece) from 2004 to 2005. There, I taught Spanish in a small school and translated a book.
  • When I returned to Spain, I worked as an interpreter and personal assistant for a British company in an English-speaking area. There, I spoke English more often than when I lived in the UK. They also taught me that there is a correct way of brewing a cup of tea (it’s close to the ISO 3103, but not quite).
  • After that, I founded two translation companies that went on to win about six entrepreneurship awards.
  • In 2011 I (re-?) discovered my passion for teaching, and I started working on and off for the University of Murcia. After a while, I sold my companies and concentrated on teaching and freelancing.
