Queer: A Graphic History is now available. As you know, this year I translated this book about the history and currents of the queer movement, which is in quasi-graphic novel format.

This is what it looks like (it turned out great!):

What is Queer: A Graphic History about?

As its name suggests, the book is a historical perspective on both the word queer and the philosophical, social and critical movement. As the book itself tells us, its aims are as follows:

  • To whet your appetite to find out more.
  • To explain how queer theory became necessary as a way of questioning popular assumptions about sex, gender and identity.
  • Introduce you to some of the key ideas of queer theory and its thinkers – as simply as possible – as well as some of the tensions within queer theory, and the different directions it has taken in recent years.
  • To draw from queer theory what seems most useful for our daily lives, our relationships and our communities.
  • The idea is to invite you to get to know queer theory and to encourage you to try to think in a queer way.

Miguel Vagalume has also written about the book, in this article in Golfxs con principios. In this article he also translates part of this interview with Meg-John Barker in VICE on the occasion of the publication of the original English version of Queer, A Graphic History.
